J.P.L. Financial -- Latest Alleged Scam to Hit Pennsylvania Residents
April 6, 2009
LUZERNE COUNTY- The search continues for the man federal investigators say may have ripped off clients from his financial investment firm.
Eyewitness News first told you about the investigation into J.P.L. Financial in Kingston on Thursday. The owner, James Lake, has not been seen. Federal agents are actively searching for him. Customers are coming forth, claiming lake took their money and kept it for himself.
Eyewitness News spoke to “Dave” from Luzerne County. He says he was duped by James Lake of J.P.L. "When we got to his office they changed the locks on the doors,” he said.
The J.P.L. office is locked up and lake has not been seen for weeks. Dave has two young girls, both 19 months old. One suffers from a rare from of M.S. He thought Lake could help his family.
"I found out my daughter was sick so I went to James because I didn't have a plan. I didn't have savings. I went to him to get an idea where to put my money. I knew she was going to need life-long care,” he said.
Lake disappeared and Dave’s $11,000 was gone. Now the Secret Service, who handles money investigations, is looking for Lake. "Any jail wouldn't be good enough for him. I hope he suffers. I've never been so angry at somebody,” Dave told Eyewitness News.
So far Lake has not been charged with any crime. Federal agents want to talk to him about these allegations.
Our investigation reveals that Mr. Lake was associated with Questar Capital and was terminated without incident in March 2009.
